The DLDH congratulates its president, the honorable Thierry Badisungu for his noble fight which resulted in the adoption of an edict for the protection of human rights defenders in the province of Maniema

Monday, November 7, 2022 will remain a historic day for the Local Dynamics of Development and Human Rights (DLDH) and civil society actors in the province of Maniema, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Indeed, it was during a plenary session of the provincial assembly that the edict protecting human rights defenders was adopted unanimously by 15 provincial deputies.  Maniema is thus the 3rd province out of the twenty-six in the DRC to have an important legal framework, after the two sister provinces of South Kivu and North Kivu. The adoption of this edict is saving because it contributes to the realization of the commitments made by the Congolese government during the universal periodic review (UPR) with the United Nations. On this occasion, the Local Dynamics of Development and Human Rights (DLDH) rejoices and congratulates its President, the honorable Thierry BADISUNGU, for his noble fight for the protection of human rights defenders and the effective advocacy carried out with his fellow deputies provincial. Our thanks also go to all stakeholders, whose bravery and contributions to this process we recognize. The DLDH warmly congratulates this desire to contribute to the effectiveness of the rule of law, good governance and democracy in the Republic.
Democratic Congo. The DLDH recommends to the Governor of the province to promulgate this edict as soon as it is transmitted to him by the office of the provincial assembly of Maniema.
